Jack loves PixelGirl Presents. Where else can you get awesome, arty backgrounds, screen savers, icons, et cetera ad infinitum? Tutorials? This site contains the most highly original collection of great designs that I have ever seen. And the geek at work is the one who showed it to me, so it's certified safe.

The National Film Board of Canada popped up on my radar years ago while in the form of O! Canada, a weekly set of shorts that ran at midnight every Sunday. I haven't seen O! Canada in a while, but... even better... NFB has an archive where you can watch some really great stuff for free. Did I mention that the Canadian government pays to produce these films for the people? Watch and see what you think. I'm especially fascinated with the old war-era and propoganda films. I have to stop talking about NFB or this will turn into an essay.

MUSIC

As a chronic seeker of non-hippie reggae myself... I felt like I could die happy when I discovered seen.'s
"non-hippie reggae and dancehall" blog and store.
This guy has a line of clothing, and his blog is the best resource I have found for finding new riddimz... I'll allow him to introduce himself...

Living in the heart of Bavaria, GER, dreaming of the West Indies. Bass in the trunk, flava in the air. Reggae- and Dancehallmusic is the inspiration. The result: products that are nothing but dubplates beyond the turntable. Rare, fresh, rough, unique and forever. For the streets, the living room and the dancehall. For all of them soundboys and soundgals out there. City or countryside. For those we want to create garments and accessoires that really represent the Jamaican culture of Reggae- and Dancehall. Just too many gigs with just too many wack acts or rather their music and lyrics have led to too many "fans" with poisoned brains and terrible tastes. Red, green, yellow and lions rule thousands of crochet hats, wristbands and hippie-shirts... Do not get us wrong. We highly respect those symbols. But putting them on cheap merchandise seems almost blasphmemic to us. Too often it looks like: the only plant growing on the island of Jamaica seems to be cannabis and the only Reggae-musician out there was Bob Marley...
That is what we want to fight against, seen?
